Parenting and Working from Home

Parenting and Working from Home?!?

How’s it going at your place?

We’re finding life much more challenging than usual, on many fronts. This might be because we are exercising almost complete social distancing (other than groceries) and are practically self isolating. We’re all home together 24/7, sharing home and office facilities.

So, what can we all do to make the transition smoother??

Some tips:

  • Priortise quiet office time for booked calls, online meetings and similar. Plan ahead!
  • Take turns at being the helper teacher for the children
  • Let your kids set the agenda for the day, possibly the night before, so everyone knows what will happen and when
  • Have the kids help with chores as a break from their schoolwork
  • Don’t forget to take a break from work, just as you would if at the office, especially if it’s all getting a bit hectic or something doesn’t go to plan
  • Set time for play and being outdoors
  • Ask your partner for what you need, calmly. You’re both important and have needs to be met
  • Accept that things will arise that throw you both off. Deep breaths. Talk it through.
  • Demonstrate to your children that adults can have arguments, but that doesn’t mean you don’t love one another. It’s a difficult time for everyone.
  • Remember your children won’t remember the details but they will remember how they feel. Try and keep the energy upbeat, for them
  • Be thankful you are healthy and together. Be thankful you still have work. Some are sick (or worse). Some are unemployed or have closed down. It could always be worse.
  • Remind yourself and the kids why you’re doing this – to save lives!

I have loads more. Please reach out if you’re tearing your hair out and need some guidance on how to get what you need to get things done and keep the peace.
