Mental health affects many of us from time to time. When we are experiencing conflict, stress can increase the severity of symptoms.
It is really important for you to inform your mediator (confidentially is fine) of any mental health issues or disorders suffered. While we are unable to diagnose, we can accommodate and support your needs during mediation to ensure that you are able to participate in the process, and that your condition is not exacerbated by doing so.
This might mean delaying the mediation, spreading the mediation duration over several shorter time periods, allowing more time in private session and so on. It certainly does not mean the mediation cannot happen and, in fact, mediation can be quite therapeutic in circumstances of mental health vulnerability. It is also much less formal and stressful than other forms of dispute resolution.
